Carl E. Gulbrandsen, Ph.D., J.D., is the emeritus managing director of Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). WARF is the patent management organization for the University of Wisconsin Madison. He has a Ph.D in physiology and a J.D. degree, both from UW –Madison. He is admitted to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office and served as a member of the Patent Public Advisory Council for the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Prior to joining WARF,  Carl was general counsel of Lunar Corporation, a medical device company acquired by General Electric, and Bone Care International, a pharmaceutical company acquired by Genzyme. He has been with WARF since 1997.

Prior to becoming its Managing Director in 2000, he was WARF’s Director of Patents & Licensing. He is a member of the Licensing Executive Society, the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Association of University Technology Managers. He is Vice Chair and board member of the Morgridge Institute for Research. Carl also serves on the Boards of WiCell Research Institute, and WiSys Technology Foundation.
